    • I have a brand new black pair, sealed. Will let it go for $350 if anyone wants it.

    • I wonder if using an EQ app makes the 1000XM3s sound better though as the NC and comfort was definitely top of the line and the sound quality wasnt so bad out of the box compared to Bose or the cheaper Sony cans. But it's also $350 :D
The Sony WH1000 has its' own Sony app available for both IOS and Android. The app has an EQ to adjust low, mid, and high levels jf you prefer more bass or less bass. You can also adjust sound environments too. Others have mentioned that the stock sound sounds better with NC off. If I use my gift cards, the price works out to $275 taxes in. I just might go for it so I have at least a good set of headphones since I don't plan on buying another pair for at least another 10 years.

    • Good to know. I'll ask the rep next time. Sennheiser just came out with the 550 ii version for a whopping $550.

    • Yeah I did not try the 4.40 and the 4.50 because of too many bad reviews already.

However the pxc 550 was very comfortable and sounded great.

If the headphones arent connected to a source ask the rep how to test them. There is usually an audio cable nearby connected to the headphones which you can use and play your media to test.

    • Man, even @ $275 after taxes is a bit too much just for headphones.

I'm hoping sometime in the distant future, these things will drop under $200. :D
If not, my wallet will be safe for a very long time.
At $275, it would be the equivalent of getting the Sony WH-1000 at a retail cost of $243 compared to full price at $450. I might be able to live with that. I tried every other brand that BB had on display and hooked up and found this model to be the best. I was seriously thinking about the Sony WH-CH700n model on sale for $130. But when I tried them on, they were not comfortable enough to wear for longer than 10 minutes.

    • I tested the Plantronics along with the rest of the cans for about a good hour or so yesterday.

The Sony ones (1000XM3) were definitely amazing in NC, comfort, and had okay sound quality, definitely clear sounding cans. Didn't like the 700N or the XB900 ones however.

The 1000XM3 also seemed a notch better than the QC35s on display especially for sound quality and comfort. I don't think I would like the soind quality of the bose at all.

The Plantronics backbeat pro 2 sounded ok but felt very uncomfortable especially the top part. On the other hand I found the Sennheiser PXC 550s to be pretty amazing in terms of sound and having very decent NC. On rtings they are rated as slightly below the Plantronics in many areas but in my experience the PXC blew the plantronics away.

Now patiently waiting for them to go on another lightning sale :D

(If you are looking for the best NC cans though the Sony 1000XM3 definitely takes the cake).

I tried them in the store and they are comfortable and I did like the sound. Don't really need NC. Tried other Sony headphones like the 700n model. The sound was not as good and was less comfortable. But i could pick those up for $27 all included.

    • for anyone looking for a decent headphone that's wireless and Bluetooth, I bought sony WH XB700 yesterday at staples for 100$, these things have great sound and really do a great job of drowning out noise, I cant compare to high end headphones of course, but for me these are great.
I would not call XB700 as having a great sound quality. There is a deep notch in high treble that sucks all sparkle out of sound.
      XB700_FR.png

Honestly, the Sony XB700 & XB900 both suck given their retail price. If XB700 was $50 and XB900 was $70, then may be it is OK, but at their current price even after discounts are a terrible purchase.

    • I bought the Plantronics and returned them. Comfort was so-so - my ears would start to hurt after 30min. Noise cancelling was mediocre. Sound quality was good. At this price point it was not THAT bad. However, I don't need the noise cancelling, so I went with the Audio-Technica Ath-M50xBT. Fits me better.

    • I had the Plantronics BB2 but was not impressed with the ANC so I got a pair of the X3.

I sound on the BB2 is good, but the difference for me was in the noise cancellation. Though I refused to pay full price for the X3s and got them for $180-ish at auction. I have no issue with the sound on them, they sound good to me (classic rock, mostly).

I do find the controls on the BB2 better.

    • Honestly the plantronics sound beat pro 2's sound far more neutral and quite frankly take the sony's to the shed in terms of over all sound quality (assuming you don't listen to house/hip hop exclusively) They also have multi pair bluetooth, some sort of gyroscope (know when you put them down and stop/turn off) better battery, build like a tank, and wait for it ..........$130 bucks!!!!!!!!!

I had these plantronics for 2 years now and have grown to really appreciate them for all that I mentioned. I can't recommend them highly enough for the price https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/pl ... 2/10589638

ANC on the sony is a tier above and they are marginally more comfortable.

    • I agree that the BackBeat Pro 2s are very good purchase.

Compared to the Bose QC35 that I had before, they do have much worse ANC and are slightly less comfortable to wear but the sound quality and price is much better.

Also good to note is that they support aptX and aptX LL.

As tempting as ANC seems during commute, I value sound quality quite a bit and guess I'll look for a set of cans with ok nc but better sound.

The sound is missing something compared to the Sony WH1000 M3... Confirmed the latest Firmware installed on the Bose

Asked the 2 Bose Store Reps what is their opinion compared to the Sony as I was the only client in the store and they both said the Sony is very good but the both said the comfort is better with the Bose...

IMO ANC is a lot better on the Sony

    • I'd agree with most of this. However, for me the issue wasn't the highs as much as the mids and overall bass response which quite frankly buries a lot of the sound in it's "mud". When the highs weren't being slathered and buried in that mess they sounded fine to me.
For the Sony, I eq'ed it right away to tame the bass to my liking. But there's no fixing the fuzziness in the highs no matter what you do

    • I'll say this before, the sound quality of these cans is more than adequate for on-the-go listening. Because they are competing with noise, having an exaggerated sound signature like boosted bass is a necessity and actually preferable.

There is a lot of processing that goes on so these headphones can never be considered neutral or accurate. You can see how much processing is going on when you run the headphones in passive mode with a wire. They sound completely different.

To me always tend to sound "fuzzy" in the highs with the ANC turned on....my theory is that the ANC interferes with the treble somehow.

Anyway, yes you are paying for the wireless and ANC feature, and one is better off going with a wired or non-ANC headphone if you don't need to commute with them

I'm kind of curious how good the Hifiman Ananda BT sounds. They took an amazing $1000 wired headphone, kept the same drivers and design, and added BT. If there was a wireless headphone that was good for critical listening, that might be THE one.

    • To answer some questions.

Right now ANC headphones are "the $hit" and they exist in a bubble. The are marketed as the pinnacle of headphone technology and the indoctrinated tech reviewers support this nonsense by evaluating them in a bubble (only against other BT ANC headphones) The nature of self powered bt headphones in general have inherent limitations vs corded - even without the sound quality compromises required to get the level of ANC that something like these Sony's are able to achieve.

I also got caught up in the hype and allowed my expectations to take over my reason.

It's quite simple, you buy these for isolation because they sound better than the crap around you - that's it! These have the sound quality equivalent to an avg $50 dollar wired cans with about $300 bucks of ANC tech (debadable as I don't know how much the RND and ANC processor chips cost)

I'm fine with that - but you have to be aware of what your getting and why you are getting it.

      https://www.amazon.ca/AH-GC30-Premium-W ... r=1-4&th=1

      $305
Their best quality is their comfort, can wear them for many hours on a plane without discomfort.

Better audio quality than the Sony and Bose sets, however the ANC is not quite as good.

They were released in 2019, and have aptX HD for bluetooth

Sound quality is subjective but for me, it is way above average. Very clear sounding with good seperation and a touch bass heavy.

Yeah apart from the come/qc35 I had my eyes on the original pxc550 (missed the lightning deal though lol) and the ath-50xbt. Interesting point about the ath.

I see the H900N does go for a pretty good price. I guess I'll need to find a pair to test how bad is the NC on those.

Obviously this is Apple's vs oranges but would you say noise isolating iems like Jabra 65ts would have en edge over the Sony h900n nc cans?

The best sounding BTNC cans are probably the Seinheiser Momentum 3s, but their noise cancelling is pretty mediocre. The original PXC550's were a good sounding pair of cans with some good features, but it seems the the newer generation PXC 550s aren't as highly rated. The Sony H.Ear on 2s (WH H900N) are a great sounding pair of cans, but their ANC doesn't come close to the QC35s/XM3s. They aren't as comfortable as the Bose/Sony flagships either.

I assume that by the non NC audiotechnicas you mean the M50xBT? I'd stay away from these, based on reviews they seem pretty mediocre, but I've never tried them
