    • Those who have bought the s6 tablet, does anyone see the jelly effect? Mine is pretty bad when in portrait mode. I am not sure if it is defective, or all units are like that.
That is a characteristic of AMOLED screens. It's not defective or a Samsung specific issue. Any screen that uses AMOLED will have a form of jelly scrolling effect in portrait orientation. It does get more pronounced the larger the screen size. Won't matter who makes the tablet. AMOLED picture quality is definitely amazing, but that's something you'll always experience, until the tech advances further.

    • How does the s6 compare to the pixel slate deal?
I don't have much experience with ChromeOS, and the Pixel slate is a discontinued device. It will still get OS support though.

But how I see it is, if you prefer a more mobile oriented, touch based interface, then Tab S6. if your primarily use is content consumption/gaming/connectivity with other Samsung devices first, and then workloads on the side when necessary; then the Tab S6 will be much better suited for you. The design, size, portability, Android, that top class AMOLED screen, quad speakers, etc.

If you're productivity oriented first, then content consumption/gaming as a secondary, then Pixel Slate. It will be better for google services and workflow.

They both will do the same things more or less, but prioritize tasks from opposite ends.

    • I bought the S5e from Staples with the 10% off coupon for $450 plus Rakuton rebates. So far I'm very impressed, great screen and audio, wifi works perfect - no signal issues. I have the latest firmware updated (this week) so if there were problems, I haven't experienced them.

I would have preferred the S6 however I just couldn't justify the price. Like my phones, I'm content buying last year's model. Thank you Op for the insight and to everyone who has provided input to this thread. I'm a happy buyer.

Best advice for any Android device actually.

I also use Brave browser which has a built in adblocker (also works on youtube in browser), can permanently request desktop versions of websites, and forces HTTPS for all websites that support it.

    • i have both the Tab A 10.1" (2017ver) and 8.0"

They are pretty good for budget tablets. And my 10.1" is still holding up well even a few years later. Definitely recommend. Just make sure to install Nova Launcher on them instead of the crap that samsung uses

Both have been perfectly fine for Youtube and general browsing. For youtube, download Youtube Vanced apk, so you can skip the ads.

Nice deal! But you're comparing an unmarked, very YMMV deal, to a nationwide sale. You lucked out. For example, my RCSS doesn't have even have an electronics section...

Most people won't have that deal, but can still snag these ones at this price. Additional money off with Staples if they have working coupons still.

    • The 10.1 for $149? Are you sure? or you mean the 8"?
No Its the 10.1 2019 edition. I used my optimum points so it was free. It was not advertised and was on a special rack with all of their promotional items. They had a lot of stuff I didn't see in the flyer and they had two of the 10.1 tablets. I bought just one but maybe I should have bought two and sold one haha.

    • Has Samsung fixed the wifi issues on S5* and S6?
The S5e I got from Costco had pretty bad wifi problems (I lost all connection in landscape mode the way I normally hold my tablets) so I returned it.

I don't have any issues with the S6 holding it normally in portrait or landscape. I think once I was able get the signal to drop holding both top corners and have it in my lap so I think they fixed the issue and it is the main reason I got the S6 as I wouldn't touch the S5e again.

Still on the fence though if I will keep the S6. It's nice but not sure I can justfiy spending nearly $800 for something that is a secondary device to my s10+. I had a Fire 10 and that was fine for video but sucked at nearly everythign else which is why I got the S6. Now there is no compromises from an app / speed perspective but it is also $600 more than the Fire.

Don't have a S5e, but I have had 0 wifi problems with my S6. Doesn't matter where I hold it, what orientation, how tight, etc. Not a bar dropped.

    • Just went into a local store to check out the tablets for myself. The S5e has a horrible jello-like effect when scrolling in portrait mode. It seems like virtually all tablets have this to some degree due to the refresh rate of the display, but it was noticeably dizzying on the S5e in particular, and a quick Google search shows that it's not an uncommon issue. That and playing Russian roulette with the wifi antenna are deal-breakers for me.
What are you talking about with the wifi antenna?

      Just got the s5e myself.

I was looking to find a used S4 with pen and cellular/wifi. I was interested in the are, but might look at the S6.

Not really better battery since it’s really just bigger but the power drain is also bigger. In most cases you will get similar usage time. I do agree with your other points tho.

    • Tab A sucks because it's a budget tablet.
iOS A12 is good because it's a high end tablet. ipad mini A12 is from $529.
Samsung Tab S is good because it's also a high end tablet, Samsung display and sleek light/thin design is also awesome.
If you like Android then Samsung Tab S won't disappoint you. If you like Apple eco system then go for ipad.
Go for 5Se which is $450 after 10% discount. It's the thinnest and lightest tablet on earth and fast charge with 14 hours battery.
For $230 more you get the S6 with 8GB Ram, yes thats 8GB ram (Samsung B-die maybe?), 256GB storage and the newest Snapdragon at 2.8Ghz. I just got it and boy this thing is fast. Download speeds are insane. Did a speedtest with router in the basement and did the test on the main floor of the house. 517Mb download speed. My ISP is rated for 600. These things have ridiculously good modems in them.

    • My position is that TAB A sucks because I have one.

My 2nd position is that other than iPad, all other iPads (Air, Pro, Mini) all have A12 or better which nothing in Android's ARM processor offerings can touch. Even the SD855+ is 1/3 slower than A12 and only beat A12 by like 1% when all cores fires up.

Yes S6 ($699) does have SD855 (not the + variant) and it's better than Apples's A10 in cheap iPads ($429). But last I check there is also $250 price difference between to 2.

There is a reason why Google has abandoned Android tablets.

    • It is a good deal, but i find these tablets in 2019 are kinda in an awkward position.

At $699 for the S6, and then another $200 or so for the keyboard, you are looking at the price for a pretty decent laptop (last gen Macbook air's are only ~ $500-650) but even with the keyboard and running Dex, the S6 is NOT a replacement for a PC. It isn't a MS Surface competitor, and it doesn't really function as a primary computer, even for just basic use.

I love the form factor and weight of a tablet, but the pricepoint of $699 (and it's on sale!) is a little awkward. The S5e will be easier to swallow imo.
      I'm leaning S5e - S6 is too expensive.

Less power for sure but it's the same beautiful screen.

    • So this is an absolutely massive YMMV, but worth a shot for anyone who placed an order through Staples and is still waiting.

I went in to Staples to ask about their return policy, and it's just the standard 14 days, needs to basically be repackaged perfectly in resale condition. So I went over to Best Buy and asked about their return policy. It's January 9th for holiday season, and you can use the tablet as much as you want.

I asked if they would price match Staples, since I got an extra 10% coupon, and I showed them my Staples email receipt. They asked where I got the coupon, and I just said I stumbled upon it on google. I told them that I preferred Best Buy and would cancel my order with Staples if they would match the price, as they're much better to do business with.

I got the okay. They wouldn't beat the price since it used a coupon, but would match it. They had the 8GB 256GB in stock, and I picked it up. WAY WAY better return policy as well. So screw Staples, I called in right when I got home and cancelled my order with them.

Have you updated the software? There was a November update Samsung released. One of the bullet points was improvements to the fingerprint sensor. That might help if you haven't done so yet.

I also found that setting up fingerprints using the pad of your thumb/fingers instead of the upper half/tip works much better for me. The tips of my fingers are generally rough and dry, but the soft pad portion registers really well in comparison.

On my S10 i did this with a screen protector:
Apply protector and turn on the enhanced touch sensitivity mode or whatever its, called and register the same finger twice. I did this for both thumbs. OR You can register 1 finger up to 4 times. This increases the chances it will scan your finger properly.

Also the glass protectors that use a liquid "glue" and UV light work pretty good. I got mine from Aliexpress.
