    • Does anyone know how to install RSS Player (Android TV) version onto the fire stick? It needs Google Play services. I've installed the four Google apps as per several websites, but it still doesn't work.

The reason I want the Android TV version is that you can pause the video without using an air mouse. I want to use the physical remote control buttons.

    • Fire TV Cube seems nice at 99. I want an AppleTV app compatible device but prefer not having to pay 200+ for it. Thought about getting Roku ultra from the US but Cube seems to be better especially at this price. Anyone has a feed back on the cube? Thanks.
Don't have the CUBE but I can attest that the Firestick 4K works great with Apple TV+

    • Kind of off topic, but I was looking at an echo. My mom is older, home alone, not techy and she has trouble finding how to use messenger to video call us. Would either an echo or fb portal be better solely for the purpose of video calling?

    • firestick? is it needed if i have a chromecast? Noobie
It's the next step up from Chromecast....

Instead of casting your video stream from an app on your device to Chromecast the Firestick, which is basically an Android device on a stick, runs the actual app. Lots of media apps from the Amazon AppStore are designed for the Firestick (CTV, Global, CBC, CNN, TWN, etc.) but many Android apps will also work even though not specifically designed for it (TSN, Kodi, etc..).

    • Are you sure? I thought the 2018 didn't support Dolby atmos but the new 4k supports it?
According to Amazon, Firestick 4K is still 1st generation so hardware hasn't been changed..OS update may have added Atmos support.

    • I bought the lite version to try ( I already own a 4k), in terms of performance there is no difference. I just use it to run IPTV. If you don't need the volume controls and you don't have a 4k tv, the lite one works just as well

    • Looks like they use the same Quad-core processor for all the sticks but 4K version as 1.5G RAM compared to 1.0G RAM for new Firestick. See Amazon Firestick comparisons. Note: Firestick 4K hasn't been upgraded since 2018 release.

    • I refuse to buy something from 2018 for $45 when Amazon sold it on BF last year for $34.99 - too bad the masses won’t care about being ripped off and will jump on it lol
So you're saying you've never bought anything that was cheaper at an earlier point in time?

    • Yes, you can sideload Android media apps onto the Firestick (which is what a lot of people use it for). I had no problem sideloading onto the new version of the Firestick. The Android version is newer on the new Firesticks so the procedure is not the same as it was previously. Before, you just enable the option to allow installation of unknown apps and it allows all installs from then on. Now, for greater security it will ask permission each time to allow an app to install other apps, there is no blanket option to do it. i.e. you need another app to install other apps (eg. Downloader, FileLink, etc.) Those not familiar with Android probably thought that sideloading has been disabled.

To sideload, it is a lot easier to use Apps2Fire from the Google PlayStore. Install onto your Android device with all your media apps and then use the app to push them onto the FireStick.
Thx! I don’t have an Android device except for an Android TV box 😂

    • Thanks! So I can install Kodi and other media apps on FireOS, then use them to play local media (through OTG cable)? I read some newer version FireOS devices have disabled side-loading, will that limit my options?

    • FireOS is just a customized version of Android. You just need to connect a powered OTG cable like one of these to the USB port.

Or install a Plex Server on your computer and the Plex app from the Amazon AppStore on the firestick (both are free).

I'd rather not keep a PC running to just watch content if I can help it.

    • Yes, there is a substantial performance boost between the 4k and non-4k version. It's very noticeable. Pay for the 4K version, you won't regret it.
You're probably referring to the older generation of the non-4k version. The new 2020 version just released uses the same chip as the 4K version so it's pretty much the same.

I have both (the new non-4K version and the 4K version) and there's no difference that I can see. If you want to futureproof in case you get a 4K TV, then get the 4K version - it's only $10 more.

PS. My IT guy didn't believe me so we tested it and as the difference was so noticeable, since then he will only recommend the 4k version or the cube.

    • If you don't have a 4K tv the new Firestick at $34.99 is a great deal. It's just as fast now IMO. We have both versions and don't really notice a difference in speed now.

It's okay if your practice is to wait for the absolute lowest price, but why make a general negative statement about the "masses". Same type of ignorant commentary shows up in every thread about work from home items. We know we are over paying but we need it now.

Some of us just want the best deal today for things that can't wait and for other items we can wait for better deals.
