    • Costco has the X90k on sale again. 65" is $1398 (vis ATL $1294 last month), 75" is $1998 (same as last sale)

    • Some does not mind the blooming as much, for example, my eyes just ignore it, but yeah can be a nuisance to some.

For me, being in a dark basement room and mostly gaming, the X90k is the best value in my mind. But if viewing angle and bright room is a concern, then yeah may want to spend a few more $ and get something else.

    • Thanks so much for this, I've been jumping into the comparisons, reviews on these. While doing that I found an open box of the original subject of this thread at a reasonable price. I'm wondering if you think it would be a really bad experience trying to watch it in a bright room?

I have some opaque blinds that I can close if needed but I'm wondering if the glare off the Sony X90K will be terrible or not.

      Cheers!
Well, the rtings review cons are:

      Some blooming around bright objects.
      Struggles opposite really bright windows.
      Narrow viewing angle.

So, I think it's probably better to hold out for a good clearance deal on the QN90B (I believe the 65" QN90A was on clearance at Costco for around $1500 a few months ago...if you wait it out you may be able to get the QN90B for close to that price at some point) or the Hisense U88H (It's currently OOS and is listed at $1697, but I believe that has already dipped to $1500 during previous sales). Those are two of the brightest TVs that will handle your bright room viewing well.

If you're willing to sacrifice a bit of brightness for no blooming, super wide viewing angles and great blacks, I'd go for an open box or clearance deal on a Samsung S95B QD-OLED before grabbing a Sony X90K...that's just my personal opinion and preference though. I have a 65" S95B and even with the blinds fully open I can actually still see the picture quite well (although the window is behind the TV and not in front of it) . In a dark room situation with HDR content it's stunning and looks way better than the top of the line 2018 Hisense I have in the other room (that's just a regular 120Hz LED though and is not a mini-LED TV like the QN90B or U88H).

Yes, I know the X90K will likely be cheaper, but with a TV that you'll have several years and watch for thousands of hours, I'd spend a few hundred more up front for the best quality you can afford. I mean, I wouldn't go crazy and jump to a Sony A95K or anything, but spending toward the high end of your 2K budget wouldn't be crazy.

Keep an eye out for the 65" Hisense U88H to come back in stock on costco.ca. It's actually $300 under your $2K budget and it's a bright mini-LED based TV that would be good for a bright room: https://www.costco.ca/hisense-65%22-cla ... 95722.html

The 65" Samsung QN90B Mini-LED based TV is in stock and just $100 over your target price: https://www.costco.ca/samsung-65%22-cla ... 97069.html

The Hisense U88H (U8H in the US if you're looking up reviews) and the Samsung QN90B are two of the brightest Mini-LED based TVs out there and have pretty good backlight control and black levels for LED based TVs.

Of course, OLED or QD-OLED will have even better black levels and viewing angles, but won't be as bright. Geek squad certified open box versions of the Samsung S95B QD-OLED have dipped below 2K in the past on bestbuy.ca (I bought mine for $1950 plus $50 shipping in November and I've been very happy with it) and the Best Buy clearance warehouse in Brampton may have some deals there too (but look at the tag very carefully to see what the issue is with the TV before going that route). I have a light controlled room with blackout curtains though. The S95B is brighter than say an LG C2 or Sony A80K OLED, but isn't as bright as something like the Hisnese U88H or a Samsung QN90B Mini-LED TV.

Can anyone give me some advice on a good 65 inch TV at a good price? I could spend up to $2k, I'm in Toronto. The TV will be placed in a room with quite a lot of light coming in from all angles.

      Thanks

Seems bubby models by Sony TV :(
I was going to order a replacement or even go for higher model i.e x90. But it seems of no use
Note that in some other forums people have resolved this via a wired internet connection.
(Today i have connected google chrome cast to this x85k model and until now it’s listening to the instructions even in ideal mode, i will try again tomorrow and let this group knows if its 100% solved )
Also keep in mind sometimes Google Home is not 100% reliable when it reports a certain device is not connected, so it may not even be the TV really disconnected from your network.

From time to time, Google Home will tell me my light switch is not found etc, but I am able to connect to it using the native app on my phone. So Google Home basically "lie to me" on those instances lol

    • A side-topic, but looking for help experiences for anyone using a Logitech Harmony hub remote + X90k or any Sony smart tv i guess. The Harmony hub seems to interface via network for TV commands. Sometimes it does not go through to the TV as if the TV is not responding to waking up or its off state. I tried initializing the hub remote with the TV without IP which people say should interface it via infrared but that did not work for me. Does not seem to be an option to use the hub remote via bluetooth just like the Sony remote. Comments?
I don't have anything useful to answer your question.

But i didn't realize the harmony hub could interface thru the TV via network and not infrared. Im using an older TV with mine and plan on getting a new TV soon. Let me know when you figure this out.

So a trick which is working smooth even when TV is idel state or standby.
Connect google chromecast to your sony TV and then in your google home app just remove the previous sony google TV which was registered (only add the chromecast as TV and it works smoothly with voice commands)

When features are removed from something this generally means high-end and expensive. For example, professional Sony monitors

But I also wish I could get a dumb TV since I have an Apple TV.

However if the TV is active then voice commands from google hub max works. I tried removing the standby mode etc in sony tv settings but nothing works.
Is the TV faulty and dropping wifi ? ( other devices work properly on same wifi)
      Any one any experience?

    • We have had the 75" X90K for a couple of months (bought from Costco) and we are very satisfied with it. I am particularly satisfied with Sony's color accuracy. No matter if it's DV/HDR movie content or it's SDR videos or it's live sports, everything looks authentic and original. When watching non-HDR content, I can just set the picture mode to Custom and forget about it. Cannot say the same for my LG OLEDs--not saying its picture is bad, it's definitely top-notch, but I struggle to find a suitable picture mode for everyday videos and sports . Could be personal bias though.

    • I don't think Costco offers haul away ... I wish they did. In the US I think they do.

HiSense is brighter than the Sony X90K and seems to score higher at RTings, but based on reviews online, the Sony seems to have better picture quality. It seems the HiSense may have poor signal processing, so while technically bright it may look worse than the Sony in a lot of situations. On Reddit, it is almost unanimously X90K over the U8H.
Can you link me to the reddit threads of x90k over u8H? I have been looking at both of these for months.

    • Unfortunately, Sony used to be the brand that had the cleanest (relatively speaking) LCD panels. But quality control on Sony's non-Master Series LCD televisions have gotten worse the past 2 years. This is based on the complaints I see on the AV forums.
Agree. This is why I decided to pull the trigger and bought X90K last boxing day ... and then returned it due to panel defect. Now I do not want to deal with Sony anymore. Their quality is not acceptable for me anymore... Maybe next year will see some positive changes.

Samsung is worse. You are more likely to get a panel with DSE with Samsung than Sony. I bought a QN90B and the picture is fantastic. Love the television, but there are vertical bands and grids. But these are only visible in a handful of scenes and only if you specifically look for it.

Have not seen many complaints about DSE with the Sony X95K but the 65X95K is around $1,200 more than the 65X90K. Plus, it appears that only the 85 inch version of the X95K has the best picture quality.

After looking around for awhile all I could find was "removal of packaging materials ".

      So, I take it back.
They may have did this in the past but no longer take your old tv. This was stated on the site you schedule a delivery for a tv. I see it’s an option and there is a note to select not applicable if it is a tv. I had a tv delivered last week and can verify this.

    • I got my 55" delivered 23-Dec and have been happy with it. I thought I'd post my delivery experience since it was done by a delivery service and not UPS, or other common courier. There aren't a lot of reviews about these various Costco delivery services and only found comments about how this can be hit and miss. My Costco chest freezer delivery service back several years ago was not very good.

The TV was delivered by Custom Delivery. Very good service. Picked a date online, got assigned a 3hr window and the online portal kept me updated on changes to the time schedule which did change several times and includes the delivery person's name. It snowed 30cm two days prior to delivery so I was skeptical (this is Vancouver). The online portal shows what delivery stop I am so you can get an idea of how busy the schedule is. I got an automated phone call when the truck was one stop before mine and they showed up on time. Box was mint, I signed for it and they took a picture. I gave them $20 for coffee money since the weather was so bad. Well worth whatever little it cost extra to buy from Costco instead of having to go to the store to pick one up (I think the box may actually fit in a Corolla?...), plus getting the extended warranty for a good price.

    • I'm on the fence for this SONY x90K 65".. I could order it at 1294 less another $100 (voucher from renewal) plus the 90$ warranty... but I have a totally functioning 2014 1080P Samsung 60" TV that I really like, so I'm going to holdoff and see what they announce for next year.. My $100 off voucher is good until June (and I can probably use it on something else if I need to).. but I'm hoping they announce new Sony TVS at some point. and then in the Spring I can get a newer model OR the x90K for even cheaper on clearance or something...
Your tv is almost 10 years old. They have improved a TON since then. I went from an older plasma to this tv and the difference is incredible

60 to 65” not much of a difference. I’d recommend at least a 75’” if space and conditions permit

He's probably referring to uniformity issues and DSE which will almost certainly be a problem to varying degrees for the majority of LCDs out there
