    • Seems to me iPad Air 10.9” will likely get a minor spec bump to M2 and maybe a better backplane with 600 nits.
      They will not get OLED since if that happens will be exclusive to Pro.
      Potentially they will raise the minimum storage to 128g, which would be great but that will probably bring a price increase and definitely won’t be on sale for many more months to match the current sale.

      I think it’s pretty safe to buy an Air now on this sale price.. also Costco has a 90 day return policy so even if wrong I can return until mid March.

      i agree, crazy how the min requirement of data has gone up so much, better to get excess storage now, hate getting storage full messages

    • M3 runs hot (comparatively) and will not be in an iPad anytime soon. So no way Apple will drop M2 in Air.

      Apple did the same with MacBooks this year, intentionally crippled M3 Pro so that performance gulf is bigger between Pro and Max chip, earlier it was just more beefier GPU difference.

      Anyways it’s an iPad, even 2018 iPad Pro is overkill. So much mental gymnastics lol for what is just a fun device for teens.

    • From that article: Apple reportedly seeks for the components to be mass produced from the end of 2025, suggesting that launch could follow in early 2026.

      I'm expecting an OLED iPad Pro in 2024 though.
      In the lastest update from Mark Gurman, he says Apple's 2024 ‌iPad Pro‌ models will feature OLED displays, a first for the ‌iPad‌ lineup and are expected to launch around the end of March.

    • Yeah there's no way any iPad below the Pro lineup is getting an OLED display before or really anywhere near the same timeline as the Pros would be.

      It took Apple 3 years after introducing one with the iPhone X to include OLED screens with the base iPhones (12 and 12 Mini were the first ones). They can pretty much just slow walk an OLED roll-out to other iPads.

      They would be predominantly “doing” homework, and playing games like minecraft, something to do with imposter and cremates, roadblocks and watching movies. I assume the game selection will evolve with age.
      I’d go with the cheapest iPad possible. They’re kids. Kids break things. Kids will want an upgrade quickly as their wants/needs expand. I’ve owned and bought iPads for family members for every gen since the original iPad and aside from the time where a discerning family member noted that they didn’t like the non laminated screen vs laminated the purchases have always fit their needs. I actually get the Air for that reason, I simply enjoy the laminated screen and am willing to pay a premium for it it. My upgrade cycle is about every 4-5 years.

    • I'd say it depends on how much you want to future proof or how long you think they can go without asking for a new one.

      Based on what you said, you are okay going with the base iPad and saving yourself some $. (assuming that Minecraft is the upper end of the game they want to play)

    • That depends on the user. For most people , 64 gb would be fine for those who game casually and just use this iPad for mostly checking email, YouTube, internet browsing , uploading pictures , this iPad would be great
      For these purposes, you don't need to spend $650 plus.

      I use a lower end Chromebook (was under $200) for this and no issues. I have lighted keyboard, stylus pen and touchscreen and keyboard can be bent back to make a tablet form, or folded to self stand.

    • If it's for just basic browsing, an air is overkill. Spend half as much and just get the 9th gen off amazon.

      Your fiancee can still test it out as much as she wants. Holiday return policy is mid January.

      With Amazon is it a similar return policy? Can she try it out and if she doesn't like it return it by Jan 15th? And is APPLE care+ something people recommend (I assume if i get it for her, we can cancel applecare+ too)
      **sorry about all the questions, I'm an Android person myself. She is Apple. I don't know a single thing about Apple devices.
